Tissue Absorption Tester
The Tissue Absorption Tester is an advanced laboratory instrument designed to accurately measure water absorption time and absorption capacity of tissue products. We supply this instrument to laboratories and production environments operating in accordance with the international standard ISO 12625-8.
This tester combines standard compliance, automation and reproducibility in one compact system. It is ideally suited for quality control, product development and comparative product testing within the tissue and nonwoven industries.
This absorption tester enables objective and repeatable evaluation of how quickly and how much water a tissue material absorbs.
Measured parameters include:
- Water absorption time
- Drainage time
- Dry sample weight
- Wet sample weight
- Automatic calculation of absorption capacity (g water / g material)
All parameters are automatically recorded and calculated in full compliance with ISO 12625-8.
The Tissue Absorption Apparatus operates using a free-fall test principle:
- The tissue specimen is placed in a dedicated basket
- The basket drops from a controlled height of 25 ± 5 mm above the water surface
- The sample absorbs water without external mechanical influence
- Excess water is drained after a defined period
This method eliminates errors caused by contact pressure or operator handling and ensures excellent reproducibility.

What is a Tissue Absorption Apparatus?
A Tissue Absorption Apparatus is a laboratory device used to measure how quickly and how much water a tissue material absorbs. Performs these measurements automatically in accordance with ISO 12625-8.
Which standard does the TAA use?
The Tissue Absorption Apparatus operates fully in accordance with ISO 12625-8, the international standard for determining the absorption time and absorption capacity of tissue paper.
Which products can I test with a Tissue Absorption Apparatus?
The TAA is suitable for toilet paper, kitchen paper, napkins, industrial tissue and medical or hygienic wipes.
What exactly does the TAA measure?
The device measures absorption time, drainage time, dry weight, wet weight and automatically calculates the absorption capacity in grams of water per gram of material.
Why is an automated absorption test important?
Automation reduces operator influence, increases reproducibility and ensures consistent results between different tests, batches and production locations.
For which departments is the TAA suitable?
The Tissue Absorption Apparatus is used in quality control, R&D, product development and testing institutes within the tissue industry.
